Theory of Writing

My theory of writing is that writing is freedom of expression where the author can be as creative as they want to be. Like with many forms of art, literature allows the author to write whatever they please with little to no restriction. Coming into freshman composition English class, my theory of writing was simply doing enough to answer the question/task provided. By that, I mean doing the bare minimum. Highschool level writing didn’t ask for much more than answering the prompt and meeting the proper page requirements. After writing each composition, my theory of writing evolved to reflect a more open notion of eloquence that writing allows. It’s beautiful to see just how much more writing brings to the table when you aren’t required to fix it on purely academic standards.

Being able to write what I enjoy has contributed significantly to my theory of writing. As with many things, when you do something that you like, you’re more likely to develop a different feeling towards it as opposed to hating it. By understanding that, it’s clear as to why and many other students who have taken a freshman English composition class have evolved our opinions regarding a theory of writing. The relationship between creating knowledge and my theory of writing is both allowing for a person to grow their personality and skills. The phrase “creating knowledge” is extensive and can mean various things. My take on that phrase would be how my theory of writing correlates to the research I put behind it. In that case, my theory of writing has also shaped how I choose to research the topics that I write about. My research has improved to allow for more relevant information to be included in my assignments.

My theory of writing can be utilized in other writing situations inside and outside the class. As for inside the class, my theory of writing would allow for someone to accomplish the task given while enabling artistic aspects to be presented as well. As for outside the class, my theory of writing would allow for the liberty of expression in a writing situation that may be offered. In simpler terms, my theory of writing would help someone to write better assignments for school and would help better express what the author has to say, whether it be in a professional environment outside the classroom or for themselves.
